ABOUT THE DAYCARE

Filius& Filia is run as a parent cooperative daycare and offers a bilingual approach – English and Swedish are its everyday languages. This language profile is an important and natural part of the everyday activities and the children learn both languages from trained staff that have Swedish or English as their native language. No previous knowledge of Swedish or English is required, and each child learns the languages at his or her own pace. However, it is advantageous if at least one of the child’s parents has working knowledge of Swedish, as a large amount of the material sent to parents is in Swedish. Outdoor activities are based on the “Ur&Skur” approach promoted by the Swedish Friluftsfrämjandet organisation, and considerable importance is also given to developing the children’s social skills and empathy with others.

In addition to the language profile, it should not be forgotten that the daycare is a parent cooperative, which involves the need for parents to play an active part in helping run the daycare (not as teaching staff, but with other tasks during the year). The daycare is located at the address Rådsstigen 5 in central Huddinge. It has its own floor at the bottom of a block of flats, and the premises are specially constructed to host a daycare. The daycare covers 180 square metres, has five rooms and a kitchen, three toilets and also various storage spaces. The daycare has its own playground directly outside the front door, featuring a climbing frame and a sand pit. The daycare is right next to the Rådsparken park, which has a large playground, a sledging hill, a barbeque area, a cafe and also a small urban farm with donkeys, chickens, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, sheep and cats.

Easy to reach
The daycare is located just 10 minutes’ walk from the station at Huddinge Centrum, which is only a 15 minute ride on the train from Stockholm Central Station. A bus stop located 300 metres from the daycare is served by five different bus routes (703, 705, 710, 742, 744), with direct links to, for example, Huddinge hospital, Högdalen, Fruängen, Kungens kurva, Skogås, Stuvsta and Solgård. Huddinge library is only 300 metres away and the swimming pool and other facilities at Huddingehallen are 500 metres away.

Admission of new children
Applications for admission to the daycare should be made to Huddinge kommun. When there are places available, we will contact families in the queue to offer admission.

Equal treatment plan
The daycare has an anti-discrimination/equal treatment plan containing rules and measures for preventing, investigating and resolving issues relating to discrimination, harassment or other degrading treatment of children and staff at the daycare. The plan is assessed and, if necessary, amended on an annual basis.
